Newlyweds could find that Japan is the ideal destination for their honeymoon after the Japan National Tourism Organization stated that it has a plethora of attractions.

According to the body's executive director at its London office Koichiro Yoshida, Japan's ability to combine old and new sets it apart and offers couples the "trip of a lifetime".

"In a holiday to Japan people can experience ancient temples, gardens and cultural traditions at the same time as enjoying some of the world's most futuristic and technologically advanced cities," he said.

Suggesting places in the country for newlyweds to visit when on their honeymoon, he explained that Kyoto should be checked out due to its old-world romanticism, as well as Okinawa for its beautiful beaches akin to Hawaii.

In addition, he said that Tokyo could be perfect due to its spectacular views, shopping and restaurants.

Japan was recently included in sunshine.co.uk's list of top honeymoon spots, which also included Egypt, Thailand and Morocco.
