Continental Airlines said Friday that it will resume its non-stop flights from Hong Kong to Guam beginning on April 2, 2010.
The move is subject to government approval.
The direct flights from Hong Kong to Guam will be operated twice-weekly by Continental Micronesia utilizing its fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft, each with a total of 155 seats, including 14 business class seats and 141 coach class seats.
Continental Airlines first started operating direct Hong Kong-Guam flights in 1991, but temporarily suspended the service in August 2008. With the reintroduction of the Hong Kong-Guam direct service, Continental Airlines will become the exclusive airline to provide non-stop service from Hong Kong to the beach destination in the Micronesian islands. In addition, travelers from Hong Kong can connect to Honolulu, Hawaii at Guam Airport.
"I am pleased that we are able to reintroduce nonstop service from Hong Kong to Guam," said Matt Miller, managing director of the Asia-Pacific for Continental Airlines (pictured). "Guam is our regional hub, and the introduction will mark our second non-stop destination for customers in Hong Kong in addition to New York, where we provide daily flights on our Boeing 777-200 aircraft. I would like to thank our business partners in the travel trade industry in Hong Kong for their great support and cooperation to make this restart possible."
"Guam has been one of the top destinations for wedding, honeymoon and family travel," said Walter Dias, Continental's managing director of Greater China and Southeast Asia. "It makes perfect sense for us to restart the service, as Hong Kong is now participating in the Guam/CNMI Visa Waiver Program, eligible holders of a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Passport or British National Overseas passport can travel to Guam or Saipan without a visa. We look forward to providing customers in Hong Kong with Continental's new convenient services not only to Guam, but also to Honolulu via Guam."
Continental Airlines is the world's fifth largest airline. Continental, together with
Continental Express and Continental Connection, has more than 2,400 daily departures throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, serving 130 domestic and 132 international destinations. With more than 41,000 employees, Continental has hubs serving New York, Houston, Cleveland and Guam, and together with its regional partners, carries approximately 63 million passengers per year.
