EMC News last March, 33 year-old Stittsville resident Jamie Johnston was diagnosed with breast cancer. In early December, she finished her treatment and along with her friend Stacey Price, has launched a charity organization in hopes of finding a cure for breast cancer.the Breast Dress Project will see gently used wedding dresses sold to new brides with proceeds going to breast cancer research.I know these women are making a big step with donating their dresses, said Johnston. I need to find a cure. Lets face it a woman owns that dress. You could have breast cancer next month, or your daughter or sister. This project gives me the forum to talk to people and not only help find a cure, but save people along the way.Johnston explained that she found a lump in her breast two years prior to being diagnosed, but because she was so young, the doctors said it was nothing to worry about. When she was finally diagnosed, she was at Stage 2 and had to undergo a mastectomy and chemotherapy treatment. You have to take your health into your own hands, said Price. Breast cancer is very close to our hearts. Our dresses were the first to be donated.for the full story, check out the Jan. 1 issue.
