Understanding Bridal Showers | Wedding Dress Birmingham
A bridal shower is a pre-wedding party given for a bride-to-be before her wedding day. it is a gift-giving party where guests will provide shower gifts that can help the bride-to-be in her new life as a wife. this tradition originated in the United States, although there are some stories that this event have known to originate in Belgium. Bridal showers are typically planned by the maid of honor and bridesmaids, who prepare all stuff needed on the shower and encourage guests to give gifts for the bride and groom.
Traditionally, a bridal shower is hosted by the maid of honor. because guests are required to bring gifts for the bride, some people consider it rude for a close member of the family to host the shower. However today, relative-hosted showers are now quite common and accepted. the bridal shower typically thrown four to six weeks before the wedding day.
In the process of planning a bridal shower, there are several considerations that should be taken into account. although the party doesn't need to be extravagant, the hostess would want to make the event as special as possible as a gift for the bride-to-be.
Planning this custom is not always easy, because there are several important decisions that are needed to be done. the first thing that should to be decided is the budget. it is very important to determine the budget first before planning anything else. Planning a bridal shower can be very expensive if not taken seriously. the organizer should decide how much she'll be willing to spend, or, she may ask for contributions from others.
The hostess may come up with a themed bridal shower. There are so many shower themes to choose from, such as kitchen theme, garden theme, lingerie theme, round-the-clock theme, slumber theme and etc. When choosing a theme for the shower, the hostess should consider the interest of the bride-to-be. a good choice of shower theme can reflect the bride's personality.
The kinds food and beverages for a shower party depends on the time of the day, or it can be related to the theme. for example, if it is a brunch gathering, then the menu could be French toast, pancakes, hash browns, sandwiches and salads, accompanied by coffee, and often by a Mimosa, champagne, Bellini, or a Bloody Mary.
Playing games is also included in a bridal shower. Games come into play after everyone had refreshed. Traditional games like bridal shower bingo and trivia games about the bride and groom are often played on a bridal shower. the winners get to have their prizes after playing the games. Just like any occasion where souvenirs were given away, a bridal shower also distribute bridal shower favors to thank all the guests. Just like bridal shower invitations, bridal shower favors should also chosen accordingly. for example, if it is a beach themed bridal shower, then choose invitations and favors that also have that theme.

Wearing White On Your Arizona Wedding Day | Wedding Dress Birmingham
Should you wear a white wedding dress? It's a question that a lot of brides and mothers-of-the-brides grapple with, especially when planning your Arizona wedding. Courtship has changed over the years, relationships have changed, and yet so many aspects of a wedding remain strictly traditional. of course, at least we're not wearing our mother's wedding dresses anymore.
So, why do we still wear white on that big day? Throughout history, the wedding dress wasn't always white. in fact, the rich were able to afford expensive dyes for bold colors on their wedding day. Wearing white was not considered a thing of beauty. Women of history even wore silk and furs if they could afford it. If not, the bride would wear linen or a fine wool.
But the color of the gown was considered a factor of luck throughout the bride and groom's lives together. Pink was good for a may wedding, so if you were conducting a wedding of history during this hot may month you'd be wearing a pink wedding dress. Blue was the color of purity and eternal love. this was the color that bride's splashed throughout their ceremony and wedding dresses. there was a time in history when yellow was the trend as well.
White didn't become a popular color for wedding dresses until the 1800′s when Queen Victoria wore a white silk bridal gown on her wedding day. she set the trend for women to wear white on their wedding day, and since then white has taken on an entirely new meaning for brides.
A white wedding dress symbolizes that you have chosen the right life partner for yourself. It has come to represent purity of the heart and innocence, much as blue represented throughout history. But a white wedding dress is work. There's making sure no one steps on your train and gets it dirty. There's making sure that you spill absolutely nothing on your dress. It's a beautiful curse to wear a white wedding dress.
The important thing to remember about your wedding day is that it's your wedding day. there are many shades of white to choose from these days. But times have changed, and wedding dresses and tradition can change too. If you want to add some passion and boldness to your wedding, take a risk and go with a different color. It's your wedding, do what you want.

Planning Your Wedding on a Budget | Articles
Having the perfect wedding day is every girl's fantasy. it is one of the most important days of your life and of course you want to make it special and memorable. Contrary to what they say in magazines you do not need to splurge to achieve this dream. There are so many ways that you can do to work on a tight budget. But staying on a cheaper note does not mean you have to give up on sentimentality or fashion. it means you have to use your imagination and originality to come up with ideas to make your wedding an unforgettable one.
The first step is to prioritize and focus on the things you want to attain. When planning a wedding, coming up with a good checklist is a smart strategy. it is an essential part in organizing all of the work to be done beforehand. it is easy for time and money to get away once you have started the preparations and a good checklist will keep this all under control. Here are some guidelines which you can consider in planning that perfect day with a budget in mind.
Wedding gown. There are two ways to save money on your wedding dress, it's either you buy your gown "off the rack" or hire a dressmaker to make it for you. Check out bridal sales at places like Bridal boutiques because they usually offer gowns at a much lesser price. But if you plan to hire a professional dressmaker, remember that price and quality may vary considerably. To get a great deal, it is much better to hire a more expensive dressmaker but decide on a much simpler fabric and detailing for the gown.
Accessories. you should decide on to making your own headpieces and wedding accessories. Books are available in the market with a mixture of different patterns.
Cake. Choosing cupcakes as a substitute for a wedding cake is a good idea. it can be arranged in a three-tiered cake tray and decorated with color icings and sprinkles to match your theme.
Videography. An important professional priority in any wedding is wedding videography. if your budget is really tight, then a good option is to hire a videography student. they are usually creative and will do a great job for much less than a professional.
Reception Hall. Consider having the wedding reception in your backyard if the yard is big enough and the weather permits it. Set up a few canopies or tarpaulins in the possibility of rain.
Flowers. Choose flowers varieties which will be in season at the time of the wedding. you should also explore other ideas in decorating the church and reception area. use scented candles, balloon bouquets and inexpensive live plants.
Rings. Jewelry stores usually offer a variety of low cost golden rings with the type you are looking for. sometimes, they also hold clearance sales for rings.
Wedding planning on a limited budget can be stressful and overwhelming. you have to remember so many things at once that it can also be a little confusing at times. although this may happen, do not let yourself caught up in the all the drama of choosing the right gown or wedding videography to match your style. Take a deep breath and just keep in mind all of these guidelines and you will have a wedding you've always dreamed of.

Gifted Originals » Blog Archive » Nappies for brides-to-be
Nappies, diapers, absorbers – whatever you call the piece of material that wraps around a babies bum, I'm sure you'll agree that it belongs on a baby. Well, not any more it doesn't.
Not content with boring everyone to tears with how wonderful, expensive, grand, sensational, classy, memorable, etc. etc. the wedding day is going to be, bridezilla has now got another zavvy way of ensuring her day goes without a glitch: bridal nappies! Taken from Marie Claire, one fellow bridezilla tells of her shock of discovering nappies aren't just for babies:
Although I fancy myself a pretty chill bride-to-be, I do understand the crazy thoughts that pop in your head when planning a wedding. what if there's a tsunami in the new York harbor? what if the restaurant runs out of booze? (Etc.)
But no amount of crazy compares to the thread I saw on a bridal message board (which shall remain nameless), on which a future bride explains that her insanely enormous dress takes 20 minutes to get in and out of, and the oh-so-helpful bridal shop manager suggested she wear bridal diapers so she doesn't have to worry about going to the bathroom.
Um...bridal diapers? WTF?! after a quick Google search I found out that it's not a joke. Some bridal shops do in fact sell bridal diapers, which to me sounds like they're probably just taking a box of Depends and jacking up the price (typical wedding maneuver!).
I could say how I feel about this, but I think this response on the message board about sums it up: "Oh my god, if you actually had to use it, how awful would that feel to be walking around in a wet, heavy diaper? Please don't do this."
Surely, wearing a nappy on wedding day, to save the indignity of having to go to the toilet, is reasonable grounds for a divorce? Gifted Originals certainly thinks so.
Vintage wedding dresses from 1937-90 on display at Oakland retirement home
OAKLAND — Nostalgia doesn't come easy to people whose memories have been stolen by age or dementia. sometimes they can't remember their names or where they are.
But no matter her age, a woman will remember how lovely she looked in her bridal gown and the department store where she bought it. even a 102-year-old woman wheeled in front of her wedding-day portrait exclaims, "That's me!"
Proof of this came Saturday afternoon during a bridal show of vintage wedding gowns at the Mercy Retirement and Care Center. the senior home occupies an entire city block on Foothill Boulevard, an unlikely oasis between the Kentucky Fried Chicken and True Buddha Vijava Temple.
Mercy residents, staff and family members of both donated the gowns. from simple satin to sequin-studded, a story was attached to every one of them.
Like how Pat Cook's grandmother rode to Butte, Mont., in a covered wagon and had to send all the way to France for Normandy lace to make her wedding dress. Cook wore the gown to her own nuptials 55 years later.
Or how Cecilia O'Brien married Edward O'Brien 64 years ago against the wishes of her mother. "You know how mothers are," said O'Brien, 88. "They never think anyone is good enough."
Tucked away in her walker was a copy of the Ladies' Home Journal featuring Christie Brinkley on the cover in a strappy orange cocktail dress. "I always kept my dress in my cedar chest," O'Brien said, "so it stayed nice."
Angela Gracias swept her hand, palm upturned, toward the table in front of her. "These are my wedding pictures," she announced to everyone who passed by.
Few of the passers-by were men. of 160 Mercy residents, 20 at most were men. But in the pictures, the young couples are together and the future is still ahead of them.
"I fit in one of the dresses," exclaimed activity coordinator Jana Gesinger, preparing to model the decades-old gown for the show.
When a bride becomes a wife, she will ask her husband to pick up his socks and learn to juggle work with laundry, soccer and little-league games. But for now the bride is still a princess, and her husband is the prince.
That's why the dress is always the star. It has been since Queen Victoria wore a lavish white gown to her wedding in 1840.
That is also why 2,555,000 wedding dresses are sold every year — despite 50-50 odds of divorce. and it's why 7,000 couples are willing to wed every day while the average cost of a wedding in some parts of the country now exceeds the base price of a Mercedes-Benz.
Perhaps it also explains why women across the country tune in to watch matrimonial drama unfold on "Four Weddings," "Say yes to the Dress" and "Wedded to Perfection."
Most of the dresses on display Saturday cost less than $100.
Sadie Marie Lewis was married 83 years ago in a hand-sewn gingham dress. It was 1927 in Morgan City, La., and she was 14. the dress was what she could afford, and more important, she said, the hem fell below her knees. Lewis' husband was 13 years her senior and wore overalls.
"There wasn't nothing rich in Louisiana at that time," said Lewis, 96.
During World War II, suits and simple dresses stood in for gowns.
"Clothes were hard to find," said Jerry Murphy, 92. She married Robert Murphy in 1946.
He couldn't find a new suit, and she wore her wedding dress "regularly" after they were married. they spent the next 64 years together living in Alameda.
"Everything is throwaway these days — except the gowns," said Norma Perry. "I don't know anyone who gives theirs away."
She paid $60 in 1951 for a sleek satin dress she found at Goldman's department store in downtown Oakland. seeing it again Saturday, she said, "reminded me just how young we were."

Customizable Wedding Invitations | Wedding Invitations
It is mandatory to send the wedding invitations to your invited guests with several weeks before the actual wedding day, especially if you are requesting for an attendance response.
The customizable wedding invitations should contain the necessary information details about the wedding ceremony and reception such as the name of the bride and groom, the name of the wedding hosts being the ones that will also issue the invitations, the location, the time and the date of the wedding ceremony and/or reception, especially if you plan on having an after party immediately after the ceremony or in another day.
The attendance response is requested by simply adding an RSVP on the wedding invitation card or on a separate one. usually for the non-attendance replies it is only necessary in adding the expression "Regrets only" and phone number for contact. the invitations card for the ceremony information can be separate from the one for the reception information and the RSVP card can have a return address included.
The wedding hosts are either the bride's parents or some other close relatives or the groom's parents but sometimes both families can act as the hosts or the bride and groom will decide to pay for their own wedding so they don't necessarily have to mention their parent's names on the invitations.
The tradition of sending the custom made wedding invitations to make the formal announcement of a wedding day dates back several centuries ago, when it became increasingly popular exclusively in the private circles of the European noble and royal families, especially the French and English aristocracies. the wealthy had all the means in using these invitations to make the inviting to their sumptuous weddings celebrated with pomp and opulent parties but the people from lower social ranks could nor afford such forms of entertainment; the education was still a major problems in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as is was back in the middle ages when people asked the town crier to issue out loud and spread the news about a wedding among the town's people.
In the twentieth century the new printings methods and other technological inventions allowed the rapid mass production of cheap wedding invitations with different theme designs and patterns, in various shapes and color combination and outstanding sizes.
The themed wedding have become popular only in these last decades because the need to make this special event even more special than it already is become imperative; the other important reason may be the fact that not all people could afford planning their wedding ceremonies in foreign and exotic locations of the world so they have to be inventive and create the same exotic atmosphere at their own place.
If you have planned the wedding with months in advance you can also consider in sending some customizable "save the date" invitation cards, which to do replace the formal wedding invitations but simply act as reminders for your guests that an important celebration will take place in the near future so they better prepare themselves.
Both the formal wedding invitations and the "save the date" invitations can be purchased directly from online manufacturers after viewing the invitations samples on their internet sites; you can buy them at discounted prices with a unique design but you can personalize them by adding photo with the main couple, a personal drawing or a one-of-a-kind pattern design. This uniqueness can be obtained if you use your own creativity, dexterity and artistic skill and make the wedding invitations yourself by using a cheap paper material, a pair of scissors and some other small accessories such as ribbons and beads.
The wording etiquette usually demands the use of a formal language which can easily be replaced with the non-traditional wording style, if the classic wedding has be replaced with a themed one.
Usually the design of the wedding invitations can also be used as a hint about the selected theme of the wedding so your guests should probably prepare a special outfit for the party. it is considered as socially impolite to ask your guests to dress up in special clothes but if they are close relatives and friends this impoliteness can easily be forgotten. it is your wedding day so you have the right of organizing it as you want it.
Groomsmen Gifts Blog » Following Old Wedding Traditions
Weddings are often all about traditions. Of course, it depends on the couples if they want to go ahead and stick to tradition or not. old traditions like using a rhinestone initial unity candle set for lighting up the unity candle is often a staple in wedding celebrations. however, there are also other old wedding traditions that you might want to consider. Some of the old traditions include tossing the garter, the bridal bouquet and some even follow the four legends of the honeymoon. Most of us are also familiar with old wedding adages such as "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a sixpence for a shoe."
A lot of us have encountered this and have always been keen in remembering the "something blue" part, but the sixpence for her shoe is often forgotten. It might seem like a weird tradition but the sixpence is supposed cap off the bride's good luck. once everything is completed on that little ditty, then the bride will definitely be one lucky wife. Normally, the sixpence should be placed on the bride's left shoe. Although some couple's rarely follow this tradition anymore, it is a fun old tradition that you might want to consider for your own wedding day.
